Terms of Service
The rules for using Photo Identifier: what you may upload, how far you can rely on an answer, and what we are responsible for.
Last updated: 2026-11-02
These terms are an agreement between you and the people who run Photo Identifier at photoidentifier.org ("we", "us"). By using the site you accept them, along with our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
What the site does
You upload a photo and an AI vision model tells you what it thinks is in it: a name, how confident it is, a short explanation and a few close alternatives. Some tools, such as reading when a photo was taken, work entirely in your browser without AI.
How far you can rely on an answer
The answer is a machine's best guess from one picture. It can be wrong, especially with blurry photos, unusual angles, rare species or close look-alikes, and a confident-sounding answer can still be wrong.
- Never eat, touch or treat anything because of an answer here. A mushroom, plant, berry or insect that looks harmless in a photo can be poisonous. Ask a local expert first.
- Don't treat a value or authenticity estimate as an appraisal. For coins, crystals, collectibles or branded goods, ask a qualified dealer or appraiser.
- Locations and dates are guesses unless they were read from the photo's own saved details, and even those can be missing or edited.
Check anything that matters with a second source.
Free use
Every visitor can identify 5 photos a day for free, without signing up (reading a photo's saved date and camera details runs in your browser and doesn't count). The allowance is per person, not per browser: we track it per network and device, and using several devices, browsers, VPNs or scripts to get more is not allowed. We may change or pause the free allowance at any time.
Photos you upload
- Upload only photos you took yourself or are allowed to use.
- Photo Identifier identifies things, places and animals, not people. Don't use it to try to find out who someone is or where they live.
- No photos of children, no nudity or sexual content, no violence, hate or anything illegal where you or we are.
You keep every right to your photo. You let us process it and send it to our AI provider only to answer your request, as described in the Privacy Policy.
The answers you get
You may use the answers however you like for lawful purposes. We claim no ownership of them. Don't present them as an expert's opinion, and don't use the site to harass, track or deceive anyone.
Things you must not do
- Break the law or other people's rights while using the site.
- Get around the free allowance or rate limits.
- Scrape the site, overload it, probe it for weaknesses or try to reach data that isn't yours.
- Resell the service or build a product on top of it without our written permission.
Our content
The site's design, text, logo and example images belong to us. Please don't copy them without permission.
Changes, suspension and ending access
We can change, pause or stop any part of the site. If you break these terms, we may block your access without notice.
No guarantees
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will always work, that it will be free of errors, or that an answer will be correct or fit your purpose.
Our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits, lost data or lost opportunities, or for anything you do because of an answer. Our total liability for any claim connected with the site is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50, whichever is more. Nothing here removes rights your local law gives you that cannot be waived.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes too. Using the site after that means you accept the new version.
